Friday 14th October saw the inaugural intercompany golf tournament between LDF and FIF.
Held at the very impressive Dundonald Links Golf Course in Ayrshire, both teams arrived ready for action on the first tee in the somewhat overcast conditions.
Teams: LDF in red with First Independent Finance in blue
LDF Managing Director, Peter Alderson started the event, followed by the remaining 19 players who made up five teams of four players. The teams played for 3 points per hole, then team with the most points would win.
During the game, the tricky 6th hole was chosen as the ‘Closest to the pin’ due to its difficulty and location on the course - uphill into the wind, over a stream with a deep bunker onto a well-protected green.
William Murfitt (LDF Payouts Officer) won the longest drive with a distance of 322 yards.
Allan Ross, FIF Managing Director, ran a competition where the teams would try and get closer to the hole than him. Those whose shots landed closest to Allan’s would be entered into a prize draw, with £10 per person going to charity. Brian Kilpatrick (FIF Sales) was the winner, which raised £200 for the Glasgow Hospital Children’s Ward.
Throughout the day, it was clear that the result was going to be a close one, with no obvious way of telling who would clinch the title - the golf definitely had to do the talking. Scores came down to the wire with FIF being crowned victorious with only one point separating the teams 8 – 7.
