  • LDF volunteer with Chester Charity Barrowmore

Views from the flipside

Since its launch in March 2015, the LDF charity volunteering programme has been a great success with 77% of LDF employees actively engaging in a volunteering day so far this year. Continuing our support this month, a selection of LDF staff volunteered with Chester charity, Barrowmore.

Established in 1920, the Barrowmore charity was originally designed to support soldiers returning from the First World War who suffered with Tuberculosis. Over the years, the Barrowmore House has been a Hospital, Hostel and Nursing Home. Now, Barrowmore uses the house to provide accommodation for vulnerable people with disabilities, including a selection of independent living facilities for their residents.

During the volunteering day, the group were involved in a variety of supporting activities including painting and maintenance work, and apple sorting (for the on-site Bluebell Café and animal food). Employees were also introduced to the Barrowmore history with photos that showcased previous residents and workers from the old sawmill.

"I thought the day was a great way to help a great cause, giving others your time is very rewarding when you see how much it means to them." - Matt Phillips, Sales

“You can tell the staff looking after us really cared a great deal about what they did – it was good to see such positivity and enthusiasm. I would really like to go there again to help them out sometime.“ – Steve Cunningham, Projects

“I enjoyed the day and found it very rewarding. I felt the few hours of help really contributed to the charity. The residents were a delight.” – Natalie Coldrick, MI (Management Information)

“I had a really great day volunteering with the charity. I was able to chat to some of the residents; they were really nice and friendly.” - Laura Priest, Administration

What our customers say

We could not have been happier. Banks as usual were a nightmare - they took over six weeks to eventually refuse for vague reasons unexplained. White Oak UK were professional, helpful, friendly, and best of all, fast.
