‘Small firms that export are more confident’ according to the Small Business Barometer 2016, a poll undertaken with 800 small business owners across the UK.
Just under 70% of SMEs said that they believed that their businesses would grow in the next 6 months, with the figure rising higher to 78% among those who are long-term exporters. However, from these only 21% (1 in 5) are currently exporting their products and services. The report also highlighted that 30% of export businesses’ predicted that Brexit could have a negative impact on their business’.
The latest SME Confidence Tracker from Bibby Financial Services however has revealed that SME investment in exporting has actually grown substantially, doubling almost from 8% in Q3 2016 to 15% the same time 2016. This indicates the evidential increasing appetite among small businesses to grow and develop through international markets.
Despite the uncertainties of Brexit, the figures are a clear indication that many businesses are utilising export channels to support and grow their operations. This confidence in growth will further aid in the Governments ambition of doubling UK exports to £1 trillion by 2020.
